Business Leaders Can Learn Much from Manchester United's Sir Alex Ferguson, Says Jesse Young, CEO of PerDM Group
The PerDM CEO sees many parallels between managing a successful football club and managing a business.

CHESTER, ENGLAND, November 09, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Much has been said recently in the media regarding Sir Alex Ferguson reaching his twenty five year milestone of managing Manchester United. "In the modern football era it is truly an amazing achievement," said Jesse Young CEO of Per DM Group one the UK's leading outsource sales organisations. "Loyalty and patience are not two words we would equate with football today."

The Per DM CEO sees many parallels between managing a successful football club and managing a business. "When Sir Alex took over United in 1986 he had to completely overhaul the club. A route and branch approach was necessary to strip back the layers of waste and underachieving sections of the club." Much of what he proposed was unpopular and for many years did not deliver the success the fans wanted. One of the key pillars to his future success was to invest in talent. His philosophy was to create your own pipeline of future stars. Today Manchester United's youth policy is one of the best in the world and probably the very best in the UK.

"It is that kind of clarity of thinking and having the courage of your convictions which separated Sir Alex Ferguson from the rest," says Jesse Young. "Business leaders can learn from his approach. Too many directors seem incapable of making the changes necessary to ensure the survival or continued success of their companies," the PerDM CEO went on to say.

In this constantly changing world where a volatile economy is impacting on a daily basis on businesses, companies need brave leaders. It is not just a case of cutting overheads it is about understanding what resources they need to meet the challenges in their sector. Sir Alex had a clear vision of what was required to turn Manchester United into the behemoth it is today. He was fortunate to be supported by a strong Chairman in Martin Edwards. Even when the fans were baying for the board to sack Fergie he did not waver.

At PerDM they believe in investing in talent. "Our business model allows us to identify future business owners and help them to set up their own companies. Every aspect of creating a sound company structure is provided by PerDM Group," says Jesse Young. "Many young entrepreneurs never have that support or guidance when they start out."

The future success of any company is directly proportional to the talent and work ethic of the owners. Having a sound supportable structure ensures that new start-ups have the very best possible chance of success.
