South Bay Women's Network Gets Focused on Emergency Preparedness
The South Bay Women's Network will be presenting an emergency preparedness overview at the SBWN June Meeting & Luncheon, in Morro Bay, CA, on Tuesday, June 7 at 12 p.m.
MORRO BAY, CA, May 26, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- With the recent rash of tornadoes in the southern United States, flooding along the Mississippi River, as well as the devastating earthquakes and nuclear concerns in Japan, emergency preparedness is fresh on the minds of San Luis Obispo county residents. To better prepare members, as well as those in the surrounding communities, the South Bay Women's Network will be presenting an educational overview at the SBWN June Meeting & Luncheon on Tuesday, June 7 at 12 p.m.
"I'm thrilled that we are able to present such a vital and timely topic," said Mia Simmons, SBWN President. "Our speaker, Cathy Stalter, is a long-time SBWN member and her experience will be of great value to those who attend the luncheon."
Stalter, owner of the Copy Spot Signs & More in Los Osos and a member of the Estero Bay Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT) received her CERT completion certificate in May 2010.
"It is imperative to be properly prepared for emergencies," said Stalter. "Knowing your community is prepared for disaster relief, and knowing how to prepare properly to assist your family, neighborhood, workplace or church, is very important."
Along with educating SBWN members and guests on the basics of emergency preparedness, Stalter will also discuss how to become more involved with community disaster efforts and why it is crucial to have such a group in San Luis Obispo County.
"We are 225 miles from the nearest large city; that is at least a four to six hour wait for back up. Our early survival may depend upon civilian volunteers as local emergency services may be overwhelmed by a significant event," said Stalter.
Those interested in attending the presentation, which will take place at the Inn at Morro Bay, can find registration information online at SBWN.org.
